About Vikram University
Vikram University, established in Ujjain on March 1, 1957, has its roots in the generosity of Shri Ranchod Lalji Dhabai, who donated the land for the university from Barnagar. The foundation stone for Vikram University was laid on October 23, 1956, by the then Home Minister of India, Shri Govind Vallabh Pant. The event was presided over by the Rajpramukh of Madhya Bharat State, Late Jiwajirao Scindia.
The formation of the state of Madhya Pradesh in 1956 led to the merger of Madhya Bharat into it, resulting in amendments to the Act related to the University. The amended Act, known as Vikram University No. 13, 1957, was published in the Madhya Pradesh Gazette on August 16, 1957. Further amendments to the Madhya Pradesh Universities Act were made, and it was published in the Madhya Pradesh Gazette on June 28, 1985. This amendment redefined and demarcated the University’s jurisdiction, aligning it with the Revenue districts of Ujjain Division, which include Ujjain, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Shajapur, and Dewas. This shift in jurisdiction led to a decrease in the number of affiliated colleges, and some new colleges were granted affiliation as per the revised boundaries.
