PM Scholarship 2024 also known as Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) was launched in the 2006-07 academic session by the Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence. This scholarship aims to promote higher professional and technical studies to the dependent wards and widows of Central Armed Forces & Assam Rifles and State Police Personnel.

PM Scholarship 2024

PM Scholarship started in the year 2006-07 under the Ministry of Home Affairs of India. Now the PM Scholarship Scheme 2024 is provided for technical and vocational education to children and spouses of the military personnel of the country. This scholarship is given to the children and spouses of ex-martyrs and serving soldiers of all sectors of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Assam Rifles, Central Armed Forces, and RPF/SRPF. BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB personnel are also included under the Central Armed Forces.

Each academic year, a total of 5,500 scholarships are awarded, with 2,750 allocated to boys and 2,750 to girls, including wards and widows of ex-servicemen. PM scholarship provides financial assistance for a period ranging from one to five years, depending on the course duration as approved by the relevant regulatory authorities. Boys receive a monthly scholarship of ₹2,500, while girls receive ₹3,000 per month.

The PM Scholarship‘s last date was 31st January 2024.

PM Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a student in their first year of study (excluding those in Lateral Entry or Integrated Courses).
  • The student should have achieved a minimum of 60% marks in their most recent educational qualification, such as 10+2, a Diploma, or Graduation.
  • The minimum educational qualifications required for entry into various professional courses differ based on the specific course.

  • Additionally, the applicant should be a dependent ward or widow of an ex-serviceman or ex-Coast Guard personnel.

Some Exclusions For PM Scholarship

  • Wards of Civilians including Para Military Personnel are not eligible.
  • Only two wards of an ex-serviceman are eligible for this scholarship scheme.
  • Students studying abroad as well as distance learning case is not eligible for PMSS.

Priority Order for PM Scholarship Allocation

Candidates will be selected based on the following order of priority:

  • Category 1: Wards and widows of ex-servicemen or ex-Coast Guard personnel who were killed in action.
  • Category 2: Wards of ex-Servicemen or ex-Coast Guard personnel who were disabled in action and were discharged from service due to a disability attributable to Military or Coast Guard service.
  • Category 3: Wards and widows of ex-Servicemen or ex-Coast Guard personnel who died while in service due to causes related to Military or Coast Guard service.
  • Category 4: Wards of ex-Servicemen or ex-Coast Guard personnel who were disabled in service due to causes attributable to Military or Coast Guard service.
  • Category 5: Wards and widows of ex-Servicemen or ex-Coast Guard personnel who have received gallantry awards.
  • Category 6: Wards and widows of ex-Servicemen or ex-Coast Guard personnel (Personnel Below Officer Rank only).

PM Scholarship Benefits

  • The Government of India has increased the PM Scholarship amounts:
    • Girls: From ₹2,250 to ₹3,000 per month
    • Boys: From ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 per month
  • 500 additional scholarships are available for children of State Police officials martyred in terror or Naxal attacks.
  • The scheme provides ₹25,000 to students who pass 10th or 12th grade.
  • A total of 5,500 scholarships are awarded annually, with 2,750 for boys and 2,750 for girls.
  • The scholarship duration ranges from 1 to 5 years, depending on the course length.

Documents Required for PM Scholarship Application

  • Serving Certificate (if applicable) issued by the Head of Office (HOO).
  • Certificate from the State Government confirming that the State Police personnel was killed in Naxal/Terror attacks.
  • Certificate of Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ), which may include:
    • Class 12th mark sheet
    • Graduation mark sheets (for all years)
    • Diploma mark sheets (for all semesters)
  • Pension Payment Order (PPO)/Discharge Certificate/Book (mandatory for Categories A to F).
  • Death Certificate (for deceased personnel).
  • Disability Certificate (for disabled personnel).
  • Certificate of Gallantry Award (for recipients of gallantry awards).

How to Register for PM Scholarship 2024?

To register for the PM Scholarship 2024 on the National Scholarship Portal by following these steps:

  • First of all, you have to visit the National Scholarship Portal at https://scholarships.gov.in/.
  • Now on the homepage, you have to find and click on the “New Registration” link under the “Applicant Corner“.
  • Then on the next page, check the “Undertaking” box and click “Continue“.
  • Now you need to start by verifying your mobile number, followed by your Aadhaar number. Once verified, a registration form will appear.
  • Then you have to fill out the registration form carefully and click the “Register” button.
  • Note down your registration number displayed on the screen.

How to Apply for the PM Scholarship 2024-25

To apply for the PM Scholarship 2024, follow these steps:

  • First of all, you have to visit the National Scholarship Portal.
  • Now on the homepage, you have to click on the “New Application” link under the “Applicant Corner“.
  • Then you need to enter your registration number, password, and captcha on the login page. Then Click on the “Login” button and verify using the OTP sent to your mobile. For the first login, your date of birth (in DD-MM-YYYY format) will serve as your password.
  • After logging in, you’ll be proceeded to create a new password. Now set your new password and submit it.
  • The PM Scholarship application form for 2024 will appear. Fill it out carefully, ensuring you select your eligible category under “Basic Profession” (e.g., Central Armed Forces, Assam Rifles, RPF/SRPF, State Police Personnel).
  • Now choose the “Pradhan Mantri Scholarship Scheme” in the “Select Scheme” column, fill in your address, upload all required documents, and click the “Final Submit” button to complete your application.

Note: Each candidate may apply for only one course.

PM Scholarship Login with User Id and Password

  • First of all, get access to the portal using your application ID and the password sent to your registered mobile number.
  • Now an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number for verification.
  • Then Verify the OTP and set a new password.Log in and complete the scholarship application form.
  • Now Upload scanned copies of all necessary supporting documents.
  • Submit your application.
